For LNG-specific cryogenic equipment, additional cryogenic-service certifications apply — Charpy impact test results at the design minimum temperature, material certification with full chemistry, and welder qualification records per ASME IX.
Ports, airports, and customs flow
Sea freight: Hamad Port south of Doha is the primary container gateway, with project-cargo and heavy-lift handling at the dedicated terminals. Direct shipments to Ras Laffan Port are possible for very large cryogenic packages but require advance coordination with QatarEnergy logistics. Air freight: Hamad International Airport (DOH) handles urgent spares and instrumentation.
Qatar Customs runs a single-window e-clearance system. With a complete documentation pack pre-loaded, container shipments clear in 24-72 hours; air freight clears in 6-24 hours. The bottleneck is documentation completeness, not customs processing speed.
Local agency requirements
Qatar requires a local commercial agent or registered branch for any foreign vendor invoicing into Qatar. Most international OEMs operate through long-established Qatari trading partners — getting the agency arrangement right at the outset prevents commercial-registration delays.
